Anyone heard of UWC? United World Colleges?

British use of College, so its for Junior/Senior year of High School, and its IB. I'm applying, but wondered if anyone had any actual experience with it here. They have campuses all over (i think theres like 9....US, Canada, Costa Rica, Italy, Wales, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bosnia, South Africa) and you apply through the US office, with a good amount going to the US campus, and 2 to 5 getting sent to each campus (they choose).

Being IB bound anyway (my high school is all IB) and since its a coed boarding school, Im excited to apply (since I'm gonna be a sophomore, I'll apply this fall). I have a teacher who used to teach at a campus, and that on top of my Pre-IB sched. (all Hs curriculum, based on IB to prepare us) should help me atleast score an interview.

kk, I want some an opinion on something.

I'm currently signed up to take a Spanish class in the fall (more specifically, Spanish Conversation). It's definitely a less advanced class than the one I'm currently taking, though, and I don't know how much it would help. The Linguistics program is offering a one-time K'iche class (which is kind of like a variant of ancient Mayan, spoken in Guatemala). I think it would be interesting, but it's a really advanced class level.

So should I stick with Spanish Conversation, or drop it and take K'iche?

if so, take that class.

id say go with the conversational spanish

Yess, I went into an advanced course in spanish and failed miserably. Despite being interesting to know, you will really speak Spanish more than the other one, and conversation is actually a lot different than textual information.

Well, you could always step up to the challenge, if you want?
My first year of any language was honors (we finish all tenses by our second year, to be fluent by graduation)
Alot of kids started off failing, Ds and such. I think the lowest I had was a C-. By the end most people had A's, even I did. Kicked ass on the final (I got soo fucking lucky...it was mostly reading comp...pulled a 89.9...second highest.)

Well I mean, I think I know Spanish really well at this point. It seems really redundant to keep taking in when the only thing I need is practice.

And I need a certain amount of courses about the 300 level, and the Spanish one is well below that. I also need a certain number of high-level Linguistics courses, which the K'iche is.

Oh my. I got my French AP Scores back today, and I got a 1. Lmao. I did sooooooo bad. I remember after the test in May, my friends and I were talking about it, and there was this part in which we had to interpret a picture based on what a recording told us about it, and we all wrote about completely different things. Damnnnn.

AP exams suck. You have to get a ridiculously high score for them to even count for anything anyway. I remember my AP class went to a Barnes and Noble to "study" for our English AP, and we got all these books we had read throughout the past 4 years, and we ended up just ordering stuff from the cafe and talking for like 4 hours, lol.

Phil, you took an IB course or two in high school didnt you?

Seeing as my school is new and doesnt have any IB kids in the upper levels, how are the IB finals? I know how they work and whatnot, 1-7, blahblah. But are they as much harder then regular/AP as they make em out to be?

I just got a 3 on AP Lit...

Well, considering I didn't read the second half of the stories because I was sick that day and the one essay was about books I never even read, I guess that isn't too bad. Unfortunately, I'll have to take it over next year.

What is the point of AP? Seriously, what does it even do? Waste.Of.Time. x10000

I got a 3 too. I think, if you get a certain number, usually 4's or 5's, I would imagine harder subjects a 3 might work too, then it slashes a requirement for college, or gives you credits, or something like that.

Anyways.....I just finished my Literature selectives last week. Now I am on GP posting in a clinic in my hometown. Next week I'll be posted to a hospital in a rural area for a few days.

I got 4s on Calc BC (wtf, I never paid attention), Stats and US History...and a 2 on Bio. Hurray for general elective credit for 3s and up!

Do, do you got a first aid kit handy?

oh AP classes lol i took so many and went into college a few credits away from being a sophomore. it was kinda nice but it really didn't benefit me considering i switched majors halfway through so now i'm on the 5 year plan

but just to gloat, i got a 5 on English Comp, 4 on English Lit, Psychology, and Environmental Science, 3 on Euro History and Bio, and then a 2 on US History and a 1 on Chem cause I didn't pay attention lol

This fall term I have:

College Algebra- Not looking forward to it at all. (MWF 8-8:50am)
Business Computer Apps- Should be cool I suppose I don't know what to expect (MW 9:30-10:50am)
Intro to Psych - Everyone says it is pretty cool but I dunno (TR 9:30-10:50am)
English Argumentation- Actually excited about this class since the teacher is really cool (TR 12:20-1:50pm)

Depends on the teacher. The professor I had for intro to psych was so terrible that it just about turned me away from that major right off the bat (even though I learned some neat things, she made the class very, very dull), but if the teacher really interacts with the students and makes it fun (would be easy for psych, and I've heard great things about the class from students who had better professors), it should be pretty awesome.
